How do you grow your lower chest?

I have been asked that question a  few times now. My first thought is what is the pre-occupation with growing your lower chest?

I mean personally I think decline presses are a waste of space in the gym and should be thrown out to make room for more useful equipment.

Maybe some people do have deficient lower chests, but I have never seen it, either way here is the best lower chest exercises you can do…

Benchpress.

Benchpress is the best lower chest exercise you can do…. but benchpress is a normal chest exercise I hear you say.

Correct.

The best way to build your lower chest is to build chest muscle mass. Gravity will take care of pulling your chest muscles towards the ground and giving you a big lower chest.

Also doing benchpress to your nipples or lower will help build this area.

Barbell Declined Benchpress I would not do, BUT Dumbell Declined Benchpress is a good exercise, bring the dumbells down as far as they go, this wil lalso help target and grow the muscles in your lower chest.

Declined Dumbell Flyes are also a good lower chest exercise, again do them strict and bring them down as far as you can (without injuring yourself). For these I find that I get best results on only a slight decline, maybe a 20% decline.

You can do a similar movement as Declined Dumbell Flyes on the Cable Crossovers, position your body and move your arms through an arc similar to what you would do with the Dumbells. As a preferrance I do not suggest using Cable Crossovers as a major exercise.

Finally of course we have dips, which are the ultimate delined pressing movement. I personally belive dips on parallel bars to be one of the best overall chest exercises, right behind benchpress so you should be including them in your workout at any rate.

If you do not have a big chest now I would concentrate on the main mass builders before I went out of my way trying to build a big lower chest with specific lower chest exercises
